At the end of some tricks, there is something called a “Kicker” ended. Essentially what that means is that the trick has a basic ending (magician finds the card in some amazing way), but then the “kicker” is that the car has a different color back than the rest of the deck. The problem is that sometimes, either the kicker completely overshadows the basic ending (which is great in its own right), or the kicker is timed poorly and doesn’t get noticed after doing the basic ending, when some people think the trick is done.

As another thing I do when choosing tricks I like and want to perform, I tend to stay away from “kicker” endings, unless it actually makes sense in the trick, and even then, it’s not necessarily an extra part of the trick, but is integrated as part of the trick and so flows much better. Maybe I just like tricks that have a decent flow to them. As of this writing, I don’t have any specific examples, but check out some of the videos I’ve posted to see how well the flow works for me.

As of July 3rd, I’ve owned my current vehicle (the lovely Hyundai Tiburon) for one year. When I bought the car, I got gap insurance and the woman filling out the paperwork asked me how many miles I might I would be driving a year (I’m not entirely sure what this had to do with gap insurance, but it did), and I told her “I don’t know, 7,000 miles” and she scoffed at it and said that’s not likely, and so I changed my mind to 10,000 which sounded more “normal”. Before I went out for the day on the 4th of July, I had just under 7,000 miles – not sure exactly, as I just noted now that I have 7,064 miles, which includes a round trip to Somerset and one way to my parents.

No, I’m not moving (…yet). But I helped a friend move today. Actually, I helped a friend move some things into the garage of his future wife’s future house (they’re not closing until just before the 11th), and in 2 weeks I’m likely helping him move the stuff from the garage into the house. I’m not a big fan of helping people move, because I’m not a big fan of asking people to break their backs to help me move – I plan for movers, these days putting money aside for just that purpose. Anyway moving makes me think of past moving. So, as it’s been a few days since my last post, I thought I’d share with you my moving history. I know, you’re excited.
